Why is there a difference if flight time going to Hawaii vs. returning home?

angiet80 asked:

We are traveling to Hawaii and the flight going says it is 7 hours 15 minutes. Returning says 6 hours. Why the difference?

headwinds going, and/or tailwinds coming back…headwinds slow the plane down…tailwinds push it along. Routing might also effect the flight times…

    Same Routing? Headwinds/Tailwinds.

because of the way the world rotates. if you are going with the rotation then its easy and shorter. if you go against the rotation then its like going against wind. So… it will take longer to get there.
