Which Hawaiian island is the best for honeymoon?

Heather asked:

Me + my fiance are planning to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I’m not sure which island would be best.. I want to stay somewhere that is semi-secluded. (On the beach, not in a big high-rise bld) but also not FAR from things to do. It seems like theres LOTS to do in Waikiki.. Is there much to do on Maui like zoos, historical stuff, shopping etc.. Any ideas where/what part of the islands we should stay in? As well as any attractions you know of? Thanks!

Maui and Kauai, but prepare $5000 for 4 day 3 night visit. See latimes.com or cnn.com today’s video how expensive hawaii is.

I suggest Kihei in Maui. It’s affordable but very close to Wailea which is where all the expensive, high end stuff is, and it’s not in the heart of touristy Laheina.

I LIVE in Hawaii, on Oahu. I’ve been to Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island. I’ve only been to the countryside on Kauai, but Kauai isn’t too big and is more country anyway. I went to Maui about 1.5 years ago. So not worth it!! We went to see the Maui Ocean Center, Mt. Haleakala, and other things. I’ve been to Big Island three times and Hilo is like a dead town, while Kona on the otherside of the island is more lively (though not as much as Waikiki). I’d have to say Big Island was best out of the neighbor islands but nothing can compare to Oahu!! There are a LOT of tourists coming to Oahu and I’m sure it will be the perfect honeymoon because if I didn’t live here, I would definitely come here for my honeymoon. Since you wanted somewhere semi-secluded, you just have to choose the right hotel. There’s hotels on all sides of the islands but if you’re looking for the most things to do, definitely Waikiki is the best for shopping, dining, and other attractions like the museums, zoo, and aquarium. Places everyone goes to see is the North Shore. Beautiful beaches, lots of shave ice (you should try the famous Matsumoto Shave Ice)…North Shore is the country and only one hotel is there: Turtle Bay. Also in the area is the Polynesian Cultural Center–very interesting if you’ve never been there before!

–I’ve stayed at Kihei on Maui. There is only one main road in the whole city. Traffic, and non-exciting.

I personally think Maui is one of the most gorgeous, the second tallest mountain is on Maui. My family and I went to the top and looked at the cities after dark, it was beautiful. Also, Moloka’i is famous for being “the friendly isle” and for it’s long narrow waterfalls. If your in to going to the beach and doing outdoor activities like horse-back-riding or biking along the upper cliffs to look over the ocean then Moloka’i is definitely the best to go. You could also go to the “garden isle”. It’s famous for being one of the most beautiful, though there’s not much to do unless you look hard. But I would definitely stay around one of the smaller islands.

For activities you should really consider snorkeling or scuba diving. Green sea turtles are everywhere, and everything you see in snorkeling is amazing! If you go in the winter for your honeymoon then try whale watching, the whales can get to 6 feet away from the boat.

On the big island (hilo part of it) i recently(couple weeks ago) stayed at the “Hilo Hawaiian” and its not that high and we got the ocean view (room 502)… and its pretty quiet there.. so if big island i’d suggest tht hotel….. tho its quite of a long drive if u want to go like, around the island to visit Kona side for other places…
I live on oahu so i’d suggest there too for seeing a lot of other stuff lol.. or u can just jump the islands lol.. there is a super ferry tht only goes to Maui for now (it went to kauai once but Kauai has a lot of bad ppl tht apparently dont like main land ppl, so i’d suggest not there).. hope i helped a tad bit.

I love Maui and stay in Kihei because it is affordable. If you choose this island I recommend the Road to Hana and checking out the Blowhole on the West side of the island.

Maui, Kaui and Bigs Island are the best destination for romantic honeymoon in hawaii, but I suggest you to compare it with turtle island (also located in pacific). Just read about it at

    Maui by far.
Oahu and Big Island is too easy to find the city with crowds and urbanization. Kuai is too scenic. Maui is a paradise!!!
