hm, i’d say it’s always a possibility in the ocean, it’s not the sea or something. so eb careful, yes.

I was attacked once, but it was an elephant, ant it happened in Lausanne (Switzerland). So, if one can be attacked by an elephant in Switzerland, how larger must be the chance to be attacked by a shark in Hawaii!

Figure there are about a hundred thousand swimmers per day in Hawaii. There are shark attacks about once every five years. This means you would have a one in a (100,000 * 365 * 5) or about one in 180 million for each day in the water, but I suspect it may be slightly more than that but I wouldn’t lose any sleep about it. You are much more likely to drown.

No, I would worry about other things. Like jellyfish that have washed up on shore, just watch your step.
When you do go in the water, make sure that you dont have any cuts, or that your wife is in her monthly cycle.
I’ve never tried this but, when growing up in a commercial fishing area in Fla.. Fishermen would tie a bar of house hold soap (like Dial) to there waist or even just put it in there pockets. They said it was a shark repeller. Like I said I’ve never tried this, but it seems possible to me, as soap does irritate our eyes and such.
Really though you do have a better chance of winning the lottery.
Have a great time. Froggy

Anytime you go to a beach you should be alert of anything. It depends what beach you go to though. There’s many many beaches in Oahu. How do I know? I live there. I’ve lived here my whole life and I go to the beach a lot. I would recommend sandy’s beach park but the waves get really rough……….. last time it was 6-8 feet. Imagine that. Even 4 feet is pretty rough so imagine how rough it was then! Oh but it was fun! So I’d have to say that yes, you should be concerned about sharks if you go to the really deep end.
