Mauna Kea in Sept -worth it?
ananyasavur asked:
Hello,
We are traveling to Big Island Sept 30 & found a lot of hype around Mauna Kea Summit- Now, apparently we cannot take our rental cars & need to rely on tours paying $200 pp. My question was if its really that pretty and worth the drive/money – especially in Sept, with no snow and a no-moon evening
PS : Im not sure if Im into star gazing at all

Unless you are just really into that type of thing (I’m Not) I would say No it’s not worth it. I was just up on top in May,a good friend of mine is The Design Engineer at the Keck Observatory at the Summit, I didn’t have to pay the 200-$250.00 to get to the Top and I couldn’t wait to Back Down the Mountain (it was cold and bleak up there, I’m GLAD I didn’t shell out alot of money for it) So it is your decision, ME personally…I prefer the Warm parts of Hawaii over the Cold Areas…I enjoy Kona on the Big Island.

Nah, look at it when you fly over to the islands. My brother has skied down one of them. I think it was Mauna Kea just for kicks. Ski in the morning . . . lie on the beach in the afternoon. I personally would call it a shot day.
