How do I take my guns to Hawaii when I move?

codywilderptr asked:

K, moving to Hawaii and I don’t know how to take my guns with me. Now I know that I can’t take them on the plane, I’m not that stupid. My question is can I pack them in my suitcase that goes under the plane, or is that illegal too? Never had thought about it much. I am registered here, and plan on registering in Hawaii as well before I move. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There are rather strict requirements. See them here:

You can take your guns in your checked baggage, but there are some special restrictions. I suggest you read the information at this link very thoroughly.

I heard you can just carry them on. Just make sure you have them out when you walk up to security and you’ll be fine.

Hawaii is so anti-gun, unless you are going to live there permanently I would put them in storage here on the mainland. If you bring them, you have 72 hours to bring them to the Honolulu PD station and register them or you are guilty of a felony. No mags over 10 rounds, period, no excuses.

Well there is this…. you have 3 days. Type out a list detailing each of the weapons and the serial numbers of course. Print out several copies.

Somebody already gave you the link for the TSA. If you have multiple weapons of various types it might be cheaper to buy one big hard case rather than a bunch of ones for each. But you did say can you pack them in your suitcase so I assume you don’t have a huge load. So if you already have hard cases they will be fine.

Not totally necessary but if they are already registered in your home state it might be handy to have those documents on hand. Scans of pictures you have taken of them could be helpful as well just in case they are lost in transit somehow. If you have weapons that cost much it might not be a bad idea to insure them.

You might notify the airline ahead of time. You might save time by having scans of your ID and such already on you.

That was again just a cover you **** kind of thing. As long as they are declered you ill be fine. But you must hit a police station within the 3 days.
